Interested in learning mixed mode . As I understand it there are 2 channels working together, when there is a signal the mixed mode responds. Example , You may hear a weak positive increase in AM but no change in the Disc channel audio. My problem is that I dont know how to tell the difference between the 2 modes. Has any one recorded them or can someone explain the sounds? thanks

In my V3i, which I'm assuming is the same in mixed mode, I hear all metal in the left ear and disc in the right. In a trashy area it will drive you to drink but it seems to see a bit deeper in mixed mode too.

I never cared much for the mixed mode in different ears. I know that the v3i can do this. As for what concerns the DFX (mine is still on the way) I think it would be different.
Isn´t the mix mode like having the discrimination on and the pinpoint on at the same time?

Jimmy Sierra says he can't handle all the signals if Tone I.D. is left on in MM. You might try turning it off, and see how you do.

I don't keep any records about the different modes. One thing that comes to mind about using my DFX in mixed is that aside from the way it sounds off
on good and bad targets is that I keep a half eye on the VDI. Mixed mode tones on good targets are pretty steady however if there is trash in the target area slowing down and using the VDI as well as listening to the tones does help in good finds. I typically only use mixed in low trash areas to keep tone confusion at bay. In high trash and depending on EMI interference I will pick either or for frequency to use. Another big help in mixed is simply to pull the trigger and use pinpoint. Then sift the targets.

Using mixed mode, is like using motion and non motion at the same time. It helps you find deeper targets. Some people like it and some don't, it's a personal choice.

Mixed mode wasn't to good on previous Whites models because the machines just pumped out the signals mixed together. The V3i however does emulate the Nautilus DMC by putting all metal response through one ear piece and discrimination through the other.Works far better.
