I am taking a long-needed vacation to Myrtle Beach, SC and all excited to hit the beach with my DFX and Super 12" coil. Imagine my disappointment when I turn on my machine this morning and can't get it to ground balance. I don't know if its the new coil or not, but I didn't bring my stock coil with me. The machine works, but if even tap the ground with the coil, it makes a noise.

Any advice so my R&R time isn't ruined? I have never manually balanced before, so I am up for advice on that too.

Thanks everyone.

If you go to whites web site there are several videos pertaining to the DFX. I am pretty sure one of them includes how to manually ground balance but I am not positive.

Need more info.
What do you mean by if you even tap the ground it makes a noise?
It sounds like a cable problem.
What happens when you go through the auto balance sequence?
If it says unable to balance that means its a good thing as there is low mineralization present.

Balanced fine once I walked out of the sand. When on the sand, it says something like "unable to balance using this program", or something similar.

I tapped the coil on the regular ground and it didn't make any noise.

Here is your answer...first of all the reason the detector will not ground balance is caused by the low mineralization in the sand...

The message you are getting is actually "unable to ground balance installing preset levels". This is normal go ahead and hunt! :)

That's good news Gregg. I'll be sure to post back any finds from my very first beach trip!
