Hello.Been metal detecting since 86,started with a big bud, learned and loved it ,next was a garret .Don't remember which one but was the best garret at the time, hated it .It was heavy and uncomfortable.Next was an xlt love that machine,so much so, I have two! Have a minelab explorer s .Hate it tried to return to kellyco and they talked me into keeping it and using it tried and still didn't like it...Has anyone had the chance to use the deus ? How does it compare to the top range of whites? Thank You Nickel

A few Member here have/had both. I had a Deus and a Vx3. Both very good detectors, both get the same job done just in a different way. I don't think one is "better" than the other. Each one has it's own features and each one has it's own advantages/disadvantages.

I have both. They are both high end quality machines. If I was forced to pick just one I would my likely choose the Deus, but it's close. The Deus is lightning quick and super lite weight. They are very different in that the Deus is more of a sound/tone machine as where the whites is tone plus a significant amount of data which can be a plus or a minus depending on your conditions, trash etc.... I still use them both with regularity . You would be happy with either detector.

Thank you for the input. I don't want another minelab experience. Is the Deus a fast machine like the xlt? And have you noticed any increase in depth on the Deus vs the whites? Do the tones on the machines sound anything alike? Thank You and Happy New Year!

The Deus is a wicked fast machine. It's a deep one also. On planted targets I'd give the edge to the Deus. I never noticed a depth advantage in real world conditions.

I have never used or seen a machine as fast as the Deus, as the other poster stated "wicked fast". As to depth, it is really hard to say. In my test garden when I tweak the V3i they are both equally deep. In the real world I probably give the edge to the Deus, but that could be my soil or my style of detecting. As to tones, the Whites V3i has the best tones out there, both in terms of how they sound to your ear and adjustability.

The V3i allows you to set a separate tone for every VDI or any combination you desire. The Deus has 2,3,4 & 5 tones and sounds more "digital" or "boxy". Having said that, I find the Deus tones in some ways easier to interpret. Good targets have a "sweet" sound. Two targets, one a coin and the other a pop top might have the same 400 khz tone for example, but the good target will have a ramp up then plateau then ramp down, nice and sweet sounding, while the pop top will have an abrupt start and chopped finish. Hard to describe with words, but easy to hear in the field. With the V3i I am always looking at the display for the three frequencies to line up nicely as where on the Deus it's all about the sweet sound.

The Deus is far easier to learn than the V3i. With the V3i I have and use the 4x6, 6x10, 10DD and the Super 12 coils and I feel I "need" them in certain situations. The speed of the Deus allows me to use it in just about any situation w/o wanting a smaller or larger coil.

Having said all of that, you really won't go wrong with either machine.

See now I'm on the other side of the coin. I alway felt the Deus tones (v 3.1) sounded "clipped" or "chopped". I never really could come to terms with em. To me, the good and bad didn't sound much different. In all fairness to the Deus, I have a bit of hearing loss and maybe it was in those ranges. Biggest reason I got rid of it!

Thank you guys for all the input.I like a fast machine.Gonna try to get one..Thanks again..

I owned the Deus, and the Eagle Spectrum which is pretty much like your XLT. As far as speed goes the Deus rules !! I like the tones much better on the Whites machine. I found the Deus to be fairly deep but would not consider it a depth monster at least not in my soil which is very mild. As far as raw depth my CZ5 could way outperform the Deus. Not saying this to take anything away from the Deus because most of the silver here is found 4-6 inches deep with very few exceptions and it was certainly adequate. I did find a 10" silver quarter at a park that was originally targeted and then lost by a V3i. The Deus gave a decent signal and when I switched to 4Khz, it nailed a diggable VDI. You will love the lightweight of the Deus and the wireless phones make it a joy to use. The software upgrades instead of buying a new machine to upgrade are nice too !!

On the Deus it called Reactivity which is just another name for Recovery time. It's the ability to separate the signals from two targets located close together.
