Greetings T-Neters,
As a retirement gift to myself, I took the plunge and purchased a Deus II. Yesterday was my first actual field test. After some messing around with the pre-set programs, I settled in on the "Fast" program, and went to work in a favorite section of woods. I was impressed with the machine's ability to hit on some very small targets at depth. The machine also ran very quiet, even with the sensitivity bumped up to 95. So far, so good I thought. Then I hit on a crystal clear "92" VDI which turned out to be a 1923 Merc. Next to it was a 1917 wheatie ( VDI=88), and a 1904- O Barber quarter ( VDI= 95). All three targets were in a 2 foot circle, so I'm thinking it was a pocket spill.
I've only ever found a few coins with the "O" mint mark, so I was very excited about the Barber quarter. It's also a relatively low mintage (2.4 m) when compared to the 1904 (9.5 m).
I'm looking forward to getting to know the Deus II, and will continue to experiment with the factory settings before creating my own program. For my fellow Deus II detectorists who prefer hunting for older coins/ relics in the woods, do you have a preferred stock program? What have you used as a base setting when creating your own program?
Thanks for taking a look!
