I was looking over some nautical charts last night and saw a sunken wreck marked on a chart which is close to shore between two beach access roads. I have hunted one beach many times, the other, only once. It is at the end of a road that most people would only wind up at if they were lost, or locals. Anyway, a buddy and I had tried hunting there many months ago and came up empty handed. This beach sees seriously low usage.
I just wanted to go see if there were any tell tale signs of a wreck that I could see from the shore. Looking for discoloration in the water, shallow sand bar, something. Anyway, obviously I decided to bring the detector and swing in knee to waist high water since it was low tide. I almost made it from one road to the other, which are about a mile apart. I was starting to get tired and the sun was getting low. I only got two signals on the entire trek. Which netted me the following prizes:
Rather than stay in the shallows, I decided to go up to the high tide mark where it had eroded away about 8 - 12 inches of sand. I started swinging my way back. At two points I kept telling myself that I should just pack up and get back home, cook some dinner, since I was getting pretty hungry. I told myself, no, you’re at the beach metal detecting, why are you in such a hurry to leave?
Then I got another target. It took three scoops to get it out, but when I saw it, I was so glad I talked myself into staying and swinging. It seems that I never find anything good at the beach in the first hour. I don't know why that is. It is usually the second or third hour that I hit something cool.
14K white gold wedding band. Was hoping all the way home that it was platinum, but gold is just fine.
