I need some advice on a detector for a child who is 9... A buddy of mine who I hang out with down at one of the local motorcycle club clubhouses on the weekend his old lady mentioned that she wanted to get little Rey a detector for Christmas... This was after I mentioned that I go MDing from time to time and that I have an Ace 250... I was thinking some where along the lines of mentioning one of those detectors for around 50 or 60... The kid is 9 so he wouldn't really know what to do with one anyway... So he wouldn't need all the features that a more expensive detector has... I thought about sending her to kellyco.com as they have detectors around that price range... But I've heard some not so great reviews about the site... Any advice would be greately appreciated... You can PM me if you like or reply to this message...

i would try to find a local dealer if i were you, instead of kellyco. kellyco is ok if you know what you want and can figure out on your own how to use it. other than that kelly co will not be any help answering the questions that im sure a kid and his mom will surely have. a local dealer will be able to give them one on one attention that kellyco will never be able to provide. i also dont trust kellyco`s sales people as they will try to talk an inexpierianced buyer into getting a more expensive detector than they really need.

Thanks... I can't think of any local dealers... We do have several Wally worlds around here and I've also seen different detectors at Meijer which is similar to wallyworld... I'llcheck the online phone books...

Thanks Night Stalker I printed up that page... Thats pretty much what I had in mind to pass along... I was also gonna mention radio shack as thats where my first detector came from when I got it years ago for Christmas... The one on the wal-mart site looks like a nicer version though...

Today I was in walmart and as I was entering the front door, I noticed a metal detector beside the bounty hunter models called the Fun Finder. It only cost 49 bucks, made for small children....check it out. http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=4104913

I think Radio Shack also produces the Treasure Buddy....

Thanks again Night Stalker... I printed up that page from the wallyworld site... I also printed up a few pages that had phone numbers of local detector dealers on one of those online phone book sites... I gave the information to my buddies old lady... I think she might go with the detector from wallyworld because thats pretty much all the kid needs for his age... Its not too expensive and I'm sure he will get alot joy out of it...
