Detectorist finds medieval brooch

This relates to the other British story - Viking find.

Seems when something is declared to be treasure the finders and landowners get a 50/50 split.

Now what happens if the finder doesn't want to sell it? Are they forced into selling it because it's been declared "treasure"? How about the land owner. If they haven't given permission and they don't want to sell it....?

I get the feeling once you let the authorities in Britain evaluate your find and they deem it "treasure" you can say bye bye to your find. Or at least 50% of it's value.

Are the people taking the items to be evaluated looking for a by-line and a profit or just to be famous for finding the stuff?
