Detectorist Digging Without Permission

I saw on the local TV news last month that someone was digging in yards in the Crafton, Pa. area without permission. Who is the dumb dumb that did this as he got his mug caught on a Ring camera? The police are looking for you BTW.

I wish I could give reference to the story, but I can't find it now. I waited too long to come onto TNET and post about it. Maybe that's good for the idiot as everybody here would've seen his mug. I'm sure there are some out there that know who the guy is.

$64.00 or something in that range-so the police don't even bother writing one.
I had one guy taking photos of equipment in the yard, I reported it, gave the plate #.
They didn't even bother to charge him.
Should of done it another way.

If the guy was on a sidewalk or road, he can take all the photos he wants of your equipment, house or anything on your property. The only thing he could be charged with is loitering. If he was actually standing on your property, then he could be charged with trespassing.

150ft in the yard when I confronted him.
Asked him did he not see the Do not enter, Private Property, No Trespassing signs?
Reply: I didn't think it mattered.
I took photos of him, plate, car.
Didn’t matter to the LEO, minor ticket.
Entitlement that's what the issue is with some people.

The answer is simple... two hundred people walk onto his property (if he owns anything) and just start digging! He can't complain!

Most of the time they don't own anything.
So everything is a gain in life when there's nothing to loose.

Digging in private yards w/o permission is a brazen thing to do with or without possibility of ring cameras or trail cameras for that matter. I’d no sooner do that than enter a random house and help myself to a little snacky from the fridge. Besides brazen it’s creepy.

They should treat it like a hunting violation and on top of a fine take his gear and auction it off. Maybe he would think twice.
