Stopped by 1 estate sale and 1 garage sale over this long weekend. Managed to score a Garrett GTA 350 detector in perfect condition. Also picked up 3 vintage NJ license plates (2 matching). Not pictured, I also picked up a nice Lodge cast iron frying pan, a vintage hanging reel worklight, a Dell computer tower, and a box of motherboards, video cards, and other computer peripherals (hard drive, etc).

Took some old crap to a local coin show/auction the other night and managed to make a couple bucks and get rid of some stuff.

Nice detector. I've been keeping a lookout for one ever since I've been following this site. No luck so far.

Nice score. Every estate sale I go to wants full retail price for everything.

Well done. Like the detector, gosh my Crossfire coil started giving false beeps at the end of each swing, no matter how soft i was with the swing. I was amazed to find that Garret were more than happy to make me another. Good luck with that detector :)

Detector is awesome. Love it.

I find the same thing for the most part. Prices have just gotten totally out of hand on most items. I have cousin who operates estate sales and he doesn't expect (or want) everything to sell. At the end of the sale, he makes an offer to the owner to cart away everything that didn't sell. Its a definite conflict of interest --- but the industry isn't regulated in most states. Very scummy regardless. I don't know if this will work for you -- but I try to figure out what the different estate people specialize in -- seems like most of them have a few areas they are knowledgeable about and everything else (unless its easily googleable - like something with a name on it) they totally miss on. So you buy jewelry from the glassware lady and glassware from the gold guy and pendleton blankets from the army guy.

I have seen them with a stack of a least a dozen price guides, everything from glass to toys to furniture that use to set pricing. They won't haggle either, so I quit going. One company does the majority of the estate sales in my area.

I have been reading these boards for a while now and it seems there are a lot of people with similar stories. All I can say is it might be a great opportunity to start up an estate sale company. I can't imagine there is much overheard, just a lot of work. I would definitely look into it if there is not much competition. I would call up the one estate sale company and tell them you are looking to run an estate sale and they should tell you their pricing. Then do it better, and more efficiently and offer a better service to your customers.

This is a Garrett GTA 350 detector. Just because it looks similar doesnt mean it is the same machine...

Your detector is a cheap, chinese knock-off and probably isn't able to find an aluminum can at 2 inches.

I think someone in my area is sneaking in the same no name red metal detector into local estate sales. I'd swear it's the same one. Or maybe it's a dealer with a new marketing technique. Next time I see it I'm going to make a mark on it to see if it turns up again. I'm sure I've seen it 3 times these past few months.
