OK It has only been a month and a half but I just had to go out and try detecting...even if only in our snowy yard. I have already been around a hundred times so I tried the White’s XLT in coin mode...One spot give a repeatable sound so I figured I would try digging......well...more like chopping. I started with a shovel and then with a rock hammer/pick axe! I am glad it wasn’t a great target as I may have really gashed it...Recovered 4 square nails.

Now I am longing for people to try and report back on the Minelab Excalibur 800 (Ooops...I mean Equinox 800) that is coming out at the end of January 2018 as I would love a waterproof, all terrain and beach detector which is light. This seems to fit the bill.

Happy winter and 2018 everyone!

If someone can edit my title and change “Excalibur” to Equinox...that would be appreciated. Thanks!

You mean Equinox?

I can feel your PAIN my frozen friend. I will have to bypass going out as I already frosted my fingers beyond what is safe this winter. Not to mention I need to sort through the many gopher style stashes of recoveries from this years hunting. Hopefully I'll be able to relocate my finds from this season. Lovely square nails ya' got there. I am pretty certain your own yard will give up some keepers as you hack away at it! Stay warm!

Congrats for getting out!

Kevin, it IS too cold to detect here in RI and especially to dig...Organizing is a good idea...Still trying to figure out if I want to organize by location or by similar items. I need some more Riker boxes. I’d like to try electrolysis too but that should be done outside...again...too cold. Hubby did get me two graphite rods for anodes.

I have found a few coins, buckles, a thimble, a squashed ring, an ox shoe and a ton of nails here...Hopefully more someday.

Happy organizing and wishing us warmer days to look forward to!
