I'm on a business trip, working on a WWII German Airforce base. Have several hours hunting around it, haven't found much in the Nazi areas besides a few swastika coins. Best find is unidentified but I think it is a copper coin about 1000 years old with a hole in it, it was encrusted in a coating and I picked away the crustation. No time for pics, later. Met up with two other seasoned detectorists and had a fun hunt. I found the 1000 yr old coin and a silver 925 St. Christopher pendant, and a few other coins. Jeff found 16 coins that day, a beautiful man's silver ring with a green emerald surely over 100 yrs old and surprise find that we thought was a tree number. All the large trees in this town have a silver dollar in size aluminum number nailed on them and we blew it off as one of those. He cleaned it up when he got home and revealed a beautiful WWII German Eagle clasping a Swastika with the number 1 on it and a hole through it. Found it just behind a Luftwaffe airplane hangar about 5" down. Vern found a few nice coins also and what he called a mystery coin, 1870s 2 pfenning common find around my area, LOL! We have many other finds as well but this could get pages long. More later when I can post some pics. HH all, Mike
Looking for an ID on these coins, not much to work with.
This is a copper coin, about the size of a dime. Reminds me of a Carolingian period coin which puts it around 1000 years old, it was completely encrusted with a coating when I found it and I picked it off, properly cleaning it would have destroyed what features that remain as it?s really fragile.

This is a coin Jeff found 2 weeks ago here in Germany, almost certain it is silver, not sure what kind of language that is. Any ideas?

Some of the fields I wanted to detect but I just couldn?t ground balance! I use a White?s XLT, any ideas, LOL! This nuke plant is outside of town where I?m working. I was going to tell any bothersome people I was checking for radiation at a beach but, nobody bothered me. HH and any ideas on the coin IDs would be appreciated, Mike
