Detecting Michigan i found a civil war token

got out to a ghost town in Michigan and found my oldest and best find to date 1863 civil war token

1930's rubber toy car

Dude! I said "whoa" as soon as the video panned across that town. I can't tell you how many times I've driven through that tiny little town and eyeballed that exact field. Oh well, "you snooze, you loose". Congrats on the nice find. Is interesting to find those tokens with place names to see how far they traveled. That site is a bit of a hop, skip and a jump from Niles.

Hello,
You should try the tokens forum to try to get more information about your recent find. I just happened to have my "Standard Catalog of United States Tokens" out to check on an item listed on ebay. As you already know it is a Civil War Era token to substitute for one cent. My old 2nd edition only lists one issuer of CWT's in Niles, MI.. That is G.A. Colby & Sons, wholesale groceries and bakery, and it is listed as an R6! That means there are very few of then in collector's hands. You may have a "discovery piece". Even in dug condition it would be sought after by advanced CWT collectors. I hope it is a rare one.
