Detecting in Jackson MS

You could try out some of the areas around Fortification Street. There are some wooded areas that have been recently cleared out a little bit in that area. Minie balls, shells, and more has been found out there.

ok thanks. What about metal detecting on the pearl river? i am pretty close to both. I'm pretty new at this and seen a couple of guide lines to follow, but not sure if it is government land or who's it is.

Just be aware that Fortification Street is not the safest area. If you are just wanting to test out a new detector, maybe hit a public park in Madison, Brandon, or Clinton.

Captain Caveman makes a good point. If you have someone you could go with, that would be optimal. I'd also likely carry a sidearm. It's not as bad as the area on the other side of Jackson (around battlefield park), but vigilance is always a good idea. There are areas in the "hood" around JSU and such that would be GREAT places to hunt, if not for the enormous amount of crime over there. That is some of the main territory that was fought over during the Civil War.

yea sounds good guys although i am 6'6 and 340lbs carrying a .45 on my side no telling what this crazy world will do. Thanks for the info. happy hunting

UPDATE, Not sure about any of the other parks mentioned. CLINTON has went nuts. Ok so according to mayor there is no WRITTEN rule against detecting in parks. But the discourage it. They will call the police on you. Technically the police can't do much because you aren't actually breaking the law or a rule, they might try to trespass you. Not sure they can do really do that either. It would essentially just be a technicality that would have to end up being a dropped thing legal wise. But it isn't worth the hassle. I'm not sure if there are any rules for Pearl, Brandon or Madison. Does anyone know for sure?
