Detecting for Jewelry with Silver Umax?

Ok so im new to metal detecting and i just got a tesoro silver umax, i'm mainly going for coins and jewelry but today while doing some tests outside I notice that i wouldn't pick up a gold earing to good even with my discrimination above minimum, a gold ring would do better, am i going to have run it in all metal mode and dig up everything?....I do pretty good for coins..... Can you guys give me some advice on hunting for jewelry with this detector,Thanks.

If you set your Disc dial just below Nickels, you should receive signals for most
gold jewelry, except maybe very small pieces. You'll have to experiment to find
out for sure. You can always lower Disc to just above Iron or just above Foil and
compare your results using various test targets. I'm pretty new with my
Silver uMax, so I'm not speaking as an authority about this. But I do know
that my Silver uMax picks up my own gold wedding ring just fine when Disc
points just below Nickels. (Or even lower, of course.)

Also, you would probably get more responses if you posted anything about
a Tesoro product over in the Tesoro forum (under Brands). I think more
Silver uMax owners will read that forum than any other.
