Deo Fisher passed on today. She was a friend, inspiration, confidant and acting mother for all us Atocha divers when we were young and foolish. For many today, she was a special icon. In the old days, whenever someone claimed that Mel was not on the up and up, all we had to do was look at Deo and we knew that every thing was OK and that the accuser was blowing smoke, because Deo knew that Mel was the real thing.

I had no idea, Don. Thanks for letting us know. We all owe her a debt of gratitude for the years of perseverance and for being the wind beneath the wings of Mel.

Rest well, Deo. Rest well.

Don, So sad to hear of Deo's passing.

My deepest condolences to the Fisher family

She now walks again with Mel, Dirk, Angel and Lil Michael

She will live on in our hearts and minds forever

Unfortunately, those that made history with their anger, firmness, perseverance is less every day. They will always be remembered.
Now it will be diving among the clouds with Mel and rest of the family.

My condolences to the Fisher family. I never had the opportunity to meet Deo, but understand that she was an amazing woman.

Sorry to hear this sad news. I just hope that I can experience many of the wonderfu things in life like Deo did. I know she lived life to the fullest.

There is a great video of her on the Fisher site in Mel's Matinee, whe she set the Underwater Endurance Record.

Deo Fisher: A life of adventure concluded

Dolores "Deo" Fisher, widow of the late treasure hunter Mel Fisher, died Tuesday afternoon at her home in Montana.

She lost her battle with cancer, which ended a life of adventure, tragedy and ultimately success.

Deo married Mel in 1953, and embarked on a journey that spanned the country and the globe, as the Fisher family searched for the lost treasure of the Nuestra Senora de Atocha.

Deo Fisher accompanied her husband on his underwater scuba adventures, and in 1958 broke the world record for the longest period spent underwater -- more than 55 hours.

She also raised four children and became a surrogate mother to all the divers who worked for the family during the search.

I agree with everyone that has posted regarding this sad day, Deo like Mel was way before her time, she is and always will be a huge inspiration just as Mel was to me, but to women everywhere. I hope my daughters are as adventurous and caring as Deo was. She will be remembered not how she died but, the way she lived life!

I hope I can be half the person she was.

Jamie

I had the pleasure of meeting Deo a few times (here's a pic of Deo, Taffi, and I, 2 summers ago)...very nice and quite the legend in her own right!

My thoughts go out to the entire Fisher family.....

Don, My condolences go out to Kim and his family over their great loss. I've had friends checking the local paper in Key West for info on her funeral. Nothing has appeared so far as to a date. If you happen to find out that information. Would you be so kind as to post it?

Old man,
Deo died in Montana.
At this time I am unaware of specifics for any future plans.
When Mel passed on, a memorial gathering was held some months later. If I had to guess, I would say the same thing will happen for Deo. The Fisher family is very close and private.
Spash,
Don
