Schools loans are #1 revenue source of IRS. Student loan programs.. built for profit not for you. I have many friends involved in higher education at many levels. All trumpeting the Must-Have-A-Degree to open doors. One famous for profit college had to forgive all their student loans. Almost one billion dollars of debt students owed. Court settlement due to the nature of recruiting. One school had more recruiters than students. Desperate parents or sincere people wanting a better job or career. Recruiters fed the parents and students a line of pure BS. Yes we are accreditted. Of course your hours transfer.. and we can offer Financing through government protected Loans. Wow where do I sign?
Once you sign the entire full course tuition usually $40,000 is transferred to the school. Before you take a class.
Protected loan is for the Banks. IF you can't pay the banks already have your money. Now you owe the govt.
Never attend classes or drop out due to crappy teachers or more often no job offers. Too bad- pay us. Get sick.. pay us.
Even worse are the company requirements: Must have... up the gaziga. Online apps never read if right education is not checked. You already lost.
Ok you puff up your resume as all politicians do. HR dept, pays big money to verify every little lie on your resume. FInal nail in your coffin. The day your services are no longer required, guess what. No severance or benefits because ten years ago you lied on your employment app. You lose Big Time. Here's a check, sign this non-disclosure agreement or security will escort you out. [this is how the real world works]
Even if you sign security escorts you from the building. Maybe you get a box of personal stuff. Your termination agreement states passwords etc and all file belong to the company. Including backups. So now what?
IMHO the good people kicked out the door are the valued employees. Ones who built the business. Through trial and error developed systems that worked. For the company. Naturally the systems that you helped make are not good anymore. Who tells them that.. remember "The Bob's' in OFFICE Space movie. Them Consultants hired to clear the dead wood. Modernize the system. Maybe SAS or medical software that never work. Which means continuous engagements of consulting firm. BTW last company built by consultants "forgot" to invoice one plants customers for six months. Plant manager and controller got blamed.
So employees dumped due to age like myself got older. Before mass termiations businees used paper. Index cards, routing slips.. time cards. Honed to perfection. But required more people. New automated system "forgets" to invoice six months deliveries.. old employees return to paper systems. No problem as long as the employees are still around.
Every former employee who had fibbed on their resume when they started work are in jeopardy.
My company was ruined by a plethora or young, smart MBAs. With their own agenda. Upthe corporate ladder somewhere other than here. Ever see them return to fix the problems they created? Never. Now bullet proof CEO. That was america till now.
So WHY do you think a degree is necessary? Unless the company foots the bill or offers more money, why bother?
Always use Community Colleges since many instructors are highly skilled people who got shafted in the real world.
