I live in a small town, and I do a lot of driving. Due to my making the rounds in my car so much, I stop at many of the local convenience stores to gas up and grab a cold Coke. Over the years, I have developed relationships with many of the owners and cashiers. They all know I collect coins and keep an eye out for the ones that make a funny noise when they hit the drawer for me.

Here in Georgia we have a state lottery. If you have a lottery where you live, you probably already know how much people love this stuff. More than likely you have been late to work because you were caught standing in line behind some poor soul at the counter either scratching off tickets or standing there pointing and mumbling "Gimme a Lucky 7... And one of them Cool Cash... And 3 of them Crazy 8's... One of those Win for Life's... Couple of them Quick Picks... A Fantasy Five..."

Anyway, today I walked into a local store and the guy behind the counter said he had something for me. He pulled out a 1999 Silver Eagle and said some lotto fiend had come in and swapped it for a ticket. I didn't pay anywhere near spot price but he was happy to get what he asked for it - plus he got to replace it with a nice $1.00 bill for the drawer so everybody was happy.

that's almost as bad as someone I know finding about 10 morgan and peace dollars in a coin star- either the person stole those coins, or was just too senile to worry about getting more then cash from the machine... sad thing is the girl took 5 silver dollars (she didn't remember what they were either morgans or peace- and split 5 with her co-worker) then she stashed them at home only to be ripped off from her freeloading daughter's boyfriend... I was going to offer her cash for them, but I'd be he took them for smokes... crazy times we live in right? :tongue3:

I don't consider them poor souls.

More like petty gambling addicts and annoying.

Nothing like waiting 5 minutes for someone to decide on their next scratch off ticket losers just to hand the cashier a couple twenties for the tank.

Congrats though and wheres the pic? ;D

Hey, mr. hombre, you keep making them convineince store contacts! I have a 2 gal bucket, full of old coins, I pulled out of the registers, tween the ages of 14-18, working gas stations, conv stores, grocery stores, etc. Others watched their tills for me, as well. I still got 'em doing it around here too. I just like that old money.

Just too many of them, for me to want to go through, and organize, all pre-1970's.
I'm sure time, will eventually give me some time. Keep up your good hunts and finds! :icon_thumright:

(i dislike seeing ppl that have, take advantage of the less fortunant, ya know 60% fees)

What's the obsession with pics around here? I could understand if it is some sort of rare item, but this is a 1999 Silver Eagle we're talking about here. There have been millions of them minted and they all look the same except for the date.

My camera is at my booth, but I think I'll use the scanner for this coin just to preserve my honest reputation here in this lovely internet community I hold so dear.

Whoops... I misspelled "convenience". I guess I can add poor grammar to my list of bad traits to go along with my notorious dishonesty.
