I don't know for sure about yours, but I do know that some older buckles had thin stamped brass appliques, similar to the reconstruction shown below.

Could also be a piece of a compact or similar item. I have a whole bin of "Victorian Era decorative stuff."

Wish I knew what some of it was from...

What would the measurements be if unfolded?

I've seen similar decoratively embossed brass and tin trim on antique trunks, furniture, and frames.

"no idea. Man I almost hate finding stuff like that."

Ha! yes VaYank, it's too intriguing to dismiss, yet you know you'll probably never figure it out. it's good fodder for daydreams though. :D

I think DozerDan has got it.

They used to use that, in all different sizes for both the ceilings, and as backsplashes, behind the stoves or sinks.

I can't see it being a ceiling tile with it having that amount of detail.
It is from something smaller in scale.
I quite like tinpan's suggestion - matchbox cover :icon_thumleft:

Good point on scale and details Mike :icon_thumright: I'm leaning towards PBK's suggestion piece of picture frame.

I was able to unfold it and take more pictures. It seems like three of the four edges have not been cut or torn off, however one of the manufactured edge has a piece of metal sticking further out. The other corner seems to have broken off. Maybe this was part of a device to mount the artifact on. I hope this is making sense. I'll let you guys come up with your own theories. :icon_scratch:

If you scroll back to the original images you will see that is the joint where it was folded.
