I found this long nail with a raise top , not sure what it is, also some other nails, and pointy things, any info would be appreciated! Nails 2.webp Nails 3.webp Nails 4.webp Metal Detecting 2012 2013-001.webp

Thanks, Cindy

They are square nails I believe would make them 1800's. Others are better at iding this stuff than I. Also which nail are you talking about being decrative? Is it the nail in pic 4? if so It just looks like a square washer.

The nail with the square washer on it is what we called a "gyp tack" up in Georgia.... basically just a sheathing nail, that would have held down tar paper or foam board. Absolutely nothing special about it. The others are "cut nails" and could be anywhere from a few years to a hundred..... depends on what else was found with them.

Thanks for your information! Number 7 is the square nail that I am talking about, don't forget to click on the photo to make it larger!

thanks for sharing, I know it is hard to tell from the photos, it does help if you click on the photo to make it larger, but beyond that... my photos aren't that great, anytime you see my posts on that green table cloth, those are my worst photos. The ones I take right before going in the house usually poor sunlight and it shows! Sorry.

The more bigger 19th century nails you find you know you could be in a site that was a good size structure like a house, out building, barn, etc. Mainly if I find a bunch of large nails like you did all in the same spot I would hunt that spot real slow and probe test holes. Nails can give you a very good idea of what your dealing with.

Good to know, I will have to get back to that area before we leave. Good idea about the test holes. Thank you for posting. Cindy
