I found this in an area where some old houses were torn down. Because of the link decoration, I thought it might be something cool. It is almost 3 inches across and the hole in the middle is about the size of a quarter. What do you think it might be? Thanks so much!

Looks furniture related to me. Or door handle trim.

Although it looks like a vintage door knob escutcheon, there are no screw holes in it to attach it to the door, so more than likely it's not a door knob plate.

I think it is 'lighting' related. It looks to be either a 'cup' for a chandelier or either the 'decorative cover' for a chandelier ceiling plate.

If it were a decorative cover for the ceiling, it would have snapped over the plate that was screwed to the ceiling. Looking at the back around the entire edge will tell you whether there was another plate snapped onto it.

The 'cups' shown in the pic below are not exactly like yours, nor is the ceiling plate cover, but you get the idea. If you GOOGLE Victorian ceiling lights, you'll see lots of them. Neat find, Breezie

Thanks, Breezie! That makes sense. There were houses there as well as some old churches at one point.

Not all escutcheon plates have screw holes.

VHS, you are correct in not all escutcheon plates have screw holes, but they do have some form of attachment to prevent them from spinning loosely. Note the notches and recessed area in your pic. :) Breezie
