In CA at 1000' on a ridge a few miles from Auburn, my neighbors road is cut into a hillside and in that hillside is decomposed granite, red dirt, and dozens of bright white quartz rocks, some clearer than others. This fascinates me and makes me wonder how this hillside came to be millions of years ago.

Would this be a gold bearing area? I would test it myself but it's not really mine to take but I would knock on his door if there are any solid leads on this combination of earth.

Thanks for any input!

Don't know about gold content, but I bet you could find some nice vugs of quartz points if you scratched at it enough.

Its probably pegmatite. You may not find gold but you could possibly find gas pockets.Crystals, gemstones grow in gas pockets when the rock is forming.
