My mom recently bought a photo which is dated 1981 on the front.
When she happened to take it out of the frame later it had an old copy of the Declaration of independance on the other side.

In the lower left corner it says:

John Hancock
Mutual
Life Insurance
Company

Boston, Massachusetts

Yes I know that it may be 20th century, but I really dont have any ideas.
Can anyone give me any more info on this? was it some kind of 1976 promotional?
Or maybe something else? I can provide a photo if someone really wants, but it has no dates that I can find anywhere. It just looks like a copy of the declaration of independance.

Hopefully someone knows if this was some sort of one time deal, or if they have always been doing that sort of thing.

I think the came out on the country's 200th birthday. I remember having a copy that looked authentic except for the trademark of whoever had them printed up. Probably put there as a keepsake for the grandkids someday? Why not email the insurance company and ask? Monty

GEEZ Crusader...

Just because that piece of paper was meant to disassociate ourselves from England doesn't mean you have to get picky.

Maybe a spot of Boston Tea would be in order just about now. :-*

Is 1970s vintage over there? or another ebay scammer?

Yes 70's is somewhat vintage here so is some 80's items.I consider vintage to be items from the 1950's back.....

We just received this email from the company that owns the John Hancock Insurance company, and the lady is the manager of all corporate archives for the company. Here is the email that I received from her.:

Hello,

Thank you for your interest in John Hancock. The company has been operating since 1862 and is celebrating 145 years of providing insurance products.

With regards to the Declaration of Independence, John Hancock began distributing copies to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Declaration in 1926. The reproductions were so well received the company continued to distribute them through the 1940's. Unfortunately individual copies are difficult to date.

So, According to her the one that my mom has is from the 1920's to the 1940's. Any ideas if this is "vintage" ? Do lots of people have these still? It would be fun to hear something back on this. Thanks Jon.

Cool. Yes it is vintage. Winning bid on e-Bay $10. Should get more for ours now that the age is known.
