Hello all,
I decided to scout a very early 1900s school in Birmingham, the school itself is super trashy and has an unbelievable amount of iron signals due to several remodeling episodes over the decades. I instead turned to the sidewalk strips near the road as they were actually cleaner. For my efforts I turned up some early wheat pennies and my first buffalo nickel of the year. An 11-39 repeater got me a 1927-D Wheatie with a nail in the hole. On the same small strip I dug a 1917 wheatie and a 1913 wheatie, all well preserved in the black soil. My last coin was a repetable 11-12 on the Etrac at 1” and to my surprise was a 1929 Buffalo nickel. All the coins were <3” deep, very shallow stuff, hardly any deep signals at all. Now to just cross a couple silver coins off my wish list, I’ve never found a barber anything and I really want a standing liberty quarter! Here’s a couple pics!

Very nice. Some of my best finds came from curb strips. I'm just curious as to how a Canadian coin made it all the way down to Birmingham Alabama :laughing7: . Congrats to you Mister.

You did well on those sidewalk strips. I hope you get some shiny coins on your returns.:icon_thumright:

Good luck to you on finding those list coins. You’re right there - remove the surface junk and dig everything.

Congratualtions on the nice finds! :occasion14:

My best gold ring came from a 8 inch wide strip between the sidewalk and street curb found while I was finished for the day and walking back to my truck. You did very good, love those finds!
