It was too dark to get out the metal detector on my way home from work, so I decided to stop by the thrift store. Ended up getting a couple of nice autographed books.

The first one is a ring bound pamphlet by chess legend George Koltanowski called "Colle System." It's autographed on the front cover.

The second is a first edition/first printing of "Kerouac West Coast: a Bohemian Pilot Detailed Navigational Instructions" by John Montgomery. Apparently Montgomery was Kerouac's inspiration for one of the characters in "Dharma Bums" and this is his tell all. This is one of only 300 that were printed with this binding. It is autographed by the author on the title page.

Just got home, so haven't been able to do much research, but I'm pretty happy with the haul.

Thanks for looking!

Greg

Nice buy. Thanks for sharing...

This is a great thing to look for. Never thought of this.

Thanks for the research Diggimmup!

Randazzo: I have found a few more autographs at thrift stores including a George Will book and a Chuck Pahluniuk (spelling?) book.

These are probably my best so far though and it adds another element to the experience. Takes a lot longer though!

No problem. I think i'm gonna make a round right now since I'm not working and it's been a while since I hit the thrifts. Wish me luck!

Good luck! Bring us back something shiny that we can really sink our teeth into. :)

It was a bust.

Can't win 'em all! Better luck next time.

Unfortunately all the goodwills near me, and there are a lot of them, have moved to a more corporate model and they don't produce anything anymore. I miss the grungy thrift store feeling (and I'm sure I'm not alone on this forum). If I wanted new stuff, I'd go to target!
