Got out with my wife yesterday for 2 hrs. Not much time for metal detecting these days so we hit a site close by home. 3 buttons, a few relics and this large cent. My wife got her 1st ox knob.

I noticed the nice patina coming thru on the cheek of the large cent so I wrapped it in a paper towel and put in my case until late afternoon. It had dried out nicely so I used a wooden toothpick to clean off the dirt. Very pleased with how it turned out.

Very unusual to find anything copper in that kind of condition from where I usually hunt(farm fields). Nice find

Yeah we found some halfpennies in the field on previous trips but they were totally shot. One was a William III but it was toast. Luckily this large cent was on the hill and out of the muck. Literally 15 ft from the Route 50 major highway.

Hill and that part of route 50 dont go together. That is some flat land

huh? the hilly area is where the house site was. in fact, its prob 1/2 way under rt 50. the field drops off toward a creek and a woods. not too flat really.

She came out nice. Excellent restoration work. Congrats!

Love those coppers and this one looks mighty fine. Not bad for a couple of hours.

Beautiful old copper coin! :occasion14:
