A co-worker and I were talking and she mentioned that she lived in a house that was built in 1920. Of course I then told her about metal detecting and asked if I could detect her property. She was thrilled abut it as she is somewhat of a history buff and was curious about what could be on the property. Now to set the stage, the property was wide open and easy digging as there was no grass on the property and it just rained (which is not typical Phoenix weather so non-grass property is usual hard as a rock. So it all sounded good except that she mentioned her neighbors are feral cat 'friendly' and her back yard has become somewhat of a litter box. Sure enough, when I show up and walk the back lawn, the strong smell of cat urine is present and the little piles of cat poo pervaded the backyard. However, being the dedicated detectorist I am, I ventured on. Below are the finds from her property and then when I had enough of dodging cat piles, I went to meets some other detectorists at a couple of vacant lots.....
Finds on her property are the
Brass dog,
A ladies compact that I broke tonight trying to open it (not pictured)
Part of a chinese coin
A silver plated spoon (not pictured)
A neat looking button. Almost looks like a Liberty Head nickel face on a button.
Clad
A tag that is simply stamped 'A-1257'
In the other lots I found 3 wheats...1944s, 1942s, 1914 *No D mintmark*
A 1984 Mexican coin
2 Dancesport medals or tokens
A couple of marbles
A piece of a Silver fork I believe. Is stamped Wm Rogers & Sons, China. Feels heavy like a piece of silver flatware, but I'm not 100% sure as it doesn't have the 'frosty' look of silver.
