Day one, learning the new machine.
I watched the entire how to video included with the Garrett. This seems pretty straight forward, with easy to use buttons and an intuitive menu. I like the basic operating functions so far, and it would seem that I can get as detailed as I want to, once I get used to the machine.
The sounds are a bit different, but make sense to me already. The Belltone indicates a coin pretty reliably. I've only dug a couple of pieces of trash, but that was more for my curiosity. I did hear a different tone, it sounded like a ringing telephone. I was working in the coin discriminate mode. Odd sound, so I dug it. It turned out to be a large chunk of metal, in this case, an old nut and bolt.
The coins were showing up quite regularly. The yellow butt end splice connector showed up as a quarter, and the clipped piece of copper showed as a penny.
I noticed the interesting thing of not finding any nickles. I'm sure they were there, I was just not digging them. I dug everything with a belltone. Maybe I'll start digging some 'close' tones and see what they are.
The pinpointer is a little magic machine. Wow, it is nice. The coins look just like the dirt/sand here. What a handy little device, first time I've used one. All in all, very pleased with the machine.
