The forecast rain never came, so kept dry today.
Dad joined me today for the 3.5 hours (7 man hours effort) - he had a bad day with 1 plain pewter button, nearly blank lead token, & broken Rose farthing.

I got another hammered - 4th this year all from this field.

Edward III 1351 Penny, York mint. Its badly clipped & damaged by plough most of its there its just folded over.

Silver nugget (I tested it) either melted down Viking Plunder or signs of early metal working.

Piece of cast bronze, looks like part of a cauldron?? Looks Iron Age period.

Drawer handle

3 scrappy roman coins
1 nearly blank 1670s farthing
Broken 1620s Rose farthing
Geo II Irish Halfpenny - I don't find many of these.

Check out the world's smallest thimble! (it is complete other than part of the 1mm rim is missing)

This thimble could be older enough that you are right. Children often worked in the fields, the thimbles were to protect their fingers against the straw which could stab them between the nails. Although this kid must have only just learnt to walk :D

amazing well done hope thier is more thier for u to find :)

Our fingers are crossed for a Roman Silver. A bit of a long shot but we have had a couple from this field.

I was hoping to get this done before 02 Feb (shooting season finished) when we can move onto a different field next to a church. Its a field we haven't tried yet, so quite exciting.....could be loads, could be nothing!!

Congrats, Crusader, on finding another hammered. ::)

What's your avatar? Relic/coin?

Stay dry. ;D

Its a silver hammered Crusader coin.

Nice finds! There was a shepherd on one of my fields today, where I found my gold coin to be exact, I have seen him and his flock or herd of sheep for the past 22 years but never in my area. I really wanted to stop and talk to him and just say hello but I thought I would do it after detecting as I had to meet my friend. A few hours later he and his 200 sheep were gone and no where to be seen. He and his sheep was also on a field I detected today, noted by the sheep shit. I did snap a picture of him and the sheep from the street passing by. I hit 6 fields with a friend today and we did not find much, interesting finds but nothing special. HH, Mike

Nice digs Crusader. The thimble looks to be a piece of a thimble.

Nice finds as ever. Good to get in those late-season hunts!

Crusader,
Great finds again. Always a big variety. I'm sure it has to be nice to MD with your Dad no matter what you guys find.
Heck, that coin under the thimble is older than most I've been digging up lately. ;)
Cheers,
MM

No its complete other than 1mm missing on 2/3 of the bottom rim. The bottom rim is clearly visible in the hand.

Are you making those bloody things. ;D..Haven't had one yet this year. :'(
