Started with a 3 hour hunt in the morning. Stuggled to find much other than a nice large example of a 16-17th century Book Clasp. Normally these are buckled by the plough :) (plus 1 scrappy roman)

Went back after lunch but still couldn't find much so my mind wondered to another site at the top of the hill. I thought I could go up there, find 10 scrappy roman coins in 2 hours & then come home. I had done another hour by now & decided to try it.

It was a windy day today (sort of wind that makes your eyes water) & I had to cycle up hill against it. :(

After 2 hours on the villa site on the hill, I stopped & counted the scrappy romans. I had 8, (bugger), it then took me another 45mins to find 2 more. This now breaks the 150th bronze this year (Dad & I combined). My reward a cycle down hill with the wind :)

Best find - Part of a Roman Buckle ;D

You can tell its a good site - look at all the Roman pottery shards I picked up. That large white rim would have been a storage pot over 3ft high!!

We have cleared most of the coins from this site over the years (about 700). We used to find 10 in 30 mins.

(7hours 45mins detecting) - I feel wind beaten & too knacked to cook, might be pizza night. 8)

Nice hunt Crusader, I can relate to the conditions but not the finds, LOL. HH, Mike

Hey Crusader. In what trash pile do you throw your "scrappy" coins? I would love to have some of your trash. lol
I love the pictures and the stories.

I have 3 grades of Romans:
Scrappy - in a tub
Worn with some detail - in a roman pot which I had out to kids & people with interest during displays
Album - Identifiable

So a couple of these are technically not scrappy but there not album either.

as allways nice dig CRUSADER

No, I said a hard
day but good.

the hard day looks like it was well worth it crusader ;) congrats

See you had a nice day again, I only got an 1807 coin, a 2 Pfennig piece. The rest was coke, alu foil, and the numerous 5.56 x 45 cartridge cases (.223 Rem for the M16) which our American bretheren leave in huge quantities on nice Roman and Celtic sites! At least we allway´s cleared our up afterwards.

That was a good day indeed, Pip! (stated in an English accent)

You always find awesome coins! It would be an honor to datect a Roman villa site with you, buddy.
