Hi all,

I just returned from Maryland and I thought I'd share what I found, in hopes you all can identify for me so I can continue to learn this hobby. I tried to label them to make it easier. I'm trying to learn to identify flakes. Did I find flakes? Did I find a couple pieces of pottery? The two pieces of potential pottery are very flat, and is making me think they are some kind of siding or something like that.

Also, the big stone (#1) is really cool looking. I'm sure it's nothing, but I took it home anyways. Any ideas? ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1506715853.517622.jpgImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1506715864.203488.jpg

Thanks all. I think numbers 3 and 5 are keepers looks like scraper and a core. The big rock is natural there is a lot of iron deposits and concretions that build up. The smaller squares #2 I don't think is pottery honestly it looks like asbestos siding / shingles too me

Thanks! What is a core (#3)? Here are closer shots of #5 (possible scraper). ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1506717919.437043.jpgImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1506717936.411006.jpgImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1506717959.772278.jpg

Do you think #6 was anything? I feel like it had some potential lol

I like #6 even though its water worn and the flaking has been erased on most of it. It looks like there is 2ndary flaking on the edges so its probably a tool of sorts. Sometimes they would start the process of making a tool and then decide it wasnt working the way they wanted and would toss it before it was done and that is where the term of "Preform" comes in. Has to be a nice point out there some place waiting on you, rock

Thanks rock! Can't wait to find it! So, judging by the way #6 stone looks, that's an example of a worked stone? It's obvious when it's a point, but I just wanted to make sure #6 was indeed worked a little.

I attached a few more photos, including the underside base of it. This was the last piece I found so I'm excited it's something!

Very creek worn.
