Just a cold rainy weekend in my neck of the woods and only three estate sales all starting on Friday. I got bored and decided to go out Saturday around 11 and hit an estate sale not far from my house. They had a bunch of jewelry and I found a bag of pins for $15. Most of the pens were junk pins but I did see one large pin in there with a 10 karat gold mark. I talked them down to $13. Turned out to be this really nice 5.5 g pin with seed pearls. I can’t believe it made it halfway through day two without being picked up but I’m not complaining. IMG_6801.webp

Great score! Congratulations. Over here in Central Florida there is way too much competition for Gold at the estate Sales. That would have been scooped up for sure. I love my garage sales, even in the pandemic! There is something about the rush I get while turning into a garage sale. :-)

I live in a very large city and there were only two listed yard sales in the entire city. I just can’t wait till yard sale season starts up again.

Those vintage little gold pins are fun to find. I admire the workmanship that went in to the older ones. I've somewhat started collecting them and vintage stick pins when I can get them for a good price. They're a great collectible. They have the value in pm's and don't take up a lot of space. Some are just wonderful little works of art.

Great score! A lot of people around here don’t bother looking at those little pins. But I do!! From Dec 30th at a thrift store. ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1613410311.494839.webpImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1613410334.829046.webp

Good spot! Easy to miss it so small.

Nice job on the bag of pins.

Interesting pin. I guess you’ve already looked up ‘Altrusa International’: a non-profit organization focused on community service. It was founded in Nashville, Tennessee, in 1917 by Dr. Alfred Durham as a chain of national clubs for business and professional women.

The ‘CTO’ maker’s mark on the back is for the O.C. Tanner Jewelry Company of Salt Lake City, Utah. That style of mark was first used in commerce in 1940 but not registered until 1962 and expired in 1972 without renewal, although the company itself is still going strong.

There are lots of possible makers for that one but I can’t read/recognise that mark. If it’s from a decent maker there’s a good chance that’s a real diamond in the centre. Any chance of a better picture of the maker’s mark?

Nice.. I'm always in the lookout for pins for that reason. In 2019 I purchased 2 bags of men's jewelry like cufflinks and tie pins. In one bag there was a pair of cufflinks with 750 mark and the other had a pair with Alaska nugget 10K mark. I was excatic.. paid around $30 for both bags.. Now I am always in the look out for cufflinks, tie pins or pendants..JPEG_20210216_090334_1532352496.webpJPEG_20210216_090413_1156015009.webp

Small gold that is overlooked I like. This fraternity pendant is 3 grams. The size of a large pea!
