Well headed out today with a crew, My mom, Brother, Neil in West Jersey, Chark and my friend Matt and hit the field I found the half cent and Royal Artillery Button. Dogdged thunderstorms all day but managed some great finds. First signal was a nice flat button. Wandered around a bit picked up some more buttons a thimble and a mint 1881 Injun and near the end of the day picked up this sweet Eagle Dragoon button in super nice condition at an honest 10 inches down. I have a pic of my pro pointer sitting in the whole where I pulled the button out of.Its ironic how we used to go down to the DIV's every year to find civil war relics and the best ones are in my neck of the woods! I am loving this T2 everytime I use it. Hope you enjoy the pics.

Nice dragoon , looks like a lot of bending and kneeling and all was worth it , I wonder if that thimble was for sail makers or net makers ?

Wow! That button is in really nice shape! Congrats on a sweet haul! :icon_thumright:

that button is sweeet! that field gonna keep ya busy again for some time to come!

That be one sweet Dragoon button Jim! ; and it's a coat size which is relatively scarce compared to cuffs. Never could figure why :icon_scratch:. While we're on S. jersey mysteries , through the years I have seen a fair disproportionate number of those post-war British artillary buttons found in SJ where theoretically, they should'nt be. :dontknow:. Must have been lots of traffic across the pond around there even after we chased tem redcoats out! - All the Best....

That button cleaned up awesome, not that it needed any.

I did a little research and the button is listed in Tice's book as DR215A14 (Albert's DR 4). "Dragoons, high convex, two piece. Convex buttons of these type were made during the 1840's until about 1861." Sweet!

Here is my find from the field, not worthy of it's own topic. It is my second this year. These are impossible to clean, so what you see is what you get.
Congrats on the terrific finds. You are on fire!
