Hey, guys, the 3 datectateers got out for some treasure hunting today. :D Let me tell you, it was another SUPER productive hunt! We definitely have struck a SUPER spot here. :D

To get to my post, I dug an "iffy" hit that pinpointed at 6". At first, I dug out a piece of trash and then re-filled my hole. :icon_scratch: :D Being the professional that I am, I re-checked my hole...BAM! :D It was reading a perfect high-end ANALOG reading, baby! :D Well, I soon plucked out a nice wilver plated button. :D Yeah, baby, who said analog can't compete? :icon_scratch: :o :D

Here comes the good part: After we got home, I looked at the button for awhile and noticed some detail. :D Seriously, folks, I see what looks to be an eagle. ;D Since this site is early American, I am thinking it could be a militia button. Hmmmm...Iron Patch, what do you think, man? If you look closely, you can see the eagle head and part of the body. It is verrrry difficult to see, but I am about 75% positive it is an early militia button of some variety.  Iron Patch, notice the edge of the button...it is reeded!  It is about 18mm in diameter. :)

At this moment, I am thrilled! :) I am just hoping it turns out to be one!

Keep your coil low and your passion high, folks! :coffee2:

Maybe all that passion has gone to his head & affected his sight so that every little plough mark becomes one of those magic eye pictures

I think its a good button that I would keep & is about 1790s I would guess.

Hope it is Kirk.....Some of my LC's had date's on them when I dug them, and only I saw them  Now I have only no dater's :icon_scratch: Serious!!!!

Any Serious detectorist should have a jar of Aluminum Jelly on the shelf.  Go at it and then post a photo of the end result.

Got my fingers crossed for ya.

Nothing to lose on that one... Clean it!

It didn't happen to be a mushroom field you were detecting? :D :D :D

Oh well, I guess you win some and lose some. I still found some Colonial buttons. :)

Thanks, guys, for the replies.

Kirk

Nice button Kirk. I'm not sure I can see the detail but post another picture if you can get one that comes out better. I know the feeling you get when the picture can't convey the actual detail of the find.

Seriously though, you should clean all buttons like that just to be sure. I have cleaned a few military that showed no detail, and many that were mostly covered in crud. In some cases they turned out very good. Like I said nothing to lose!
