Started a bit early today in hope of missing most of the rain. It didn't hit hard until mid afternoon, but they were short showers & the constant wind soon dry us off. We suffered 5.5 hours (11 man hours), my head is still buzzing & wind sweeped but its always worth it. I would go crazy stuck in doors.

We have nearly finished section 2 which is the high ground, all going well we should have it done by tomorrow & then on to section 3 which should be a little better (I had a Gold 1/2 soveriegn from it several years ago)

Only silver was a Victorian Sixpence.
2 Lead tokens
2 17th century lead cloth seals (1 nice one)
Nene valley painted tableware (Roman pot shard) - a little out of place in this field, as its a high status piece.
One of my best Early Medieval Lead Spindal Whorl
Nice Medieval Cast Key (My eyes only)
18th century Clog Clasp

5 scrappy romans (all to me & the best 1 day total off this field) - Takes us to 54 this year.
Roman Pinhead
Very poor piece of a Roman Disc Brooch

Overall for this field a good day (for some of our better fields it would have been a bad day). This effort makes the finding of a Roman Silver so much more appreciated, trust me I'll be hopping around when we get one.

No roman silver, only Victorian. The 5 roman coins were bronze. I was talking about Roman Silver at the end as thats what I'm aiming for but unable to get so far this year.

I am very slowly, very very slowly learning more about these kinds of coins. All thanks to your guys posts thanks a lot for the good posts. I hope to dig some, someday.

Keep @ it and HH!!

You must be getting close now ;) the finds are getting better and the roman shard is prommising

Real nice lead seals. Roman coins too. Thank for posting those.

Congratulations on getting out.

Well not really as I'm not expecting a Roman silver out of this last section. The shard was a freak find, we are over 1.5 miles to the nearest Villa but only 1/2mile from the nearest roman road. We are on the edge of the Roman administrative boundry for the nearest villiage, so it was used but only for live stock & patches of wood.

I found the exact same sixpence today in Australia, only yours is older, mine is dated 1905. Happy hunting!

Crusader,
Another great hunt. That old key is a neat find.
Can you tell me about how old the buckle with the roller is in your first picture, top left? Late 1800's maybe?
I've found two or three of those myself.
Congrats & thanks,
MM

I think they are more likely 1900 - 1950s
