I went out to the local Mom and Pop store a little while ago....and on the return trip to the house....the old schoolhouse whispered to me as I drove past....pssst....hey bud....c'mere....no really....c'mon...I got sumpin' for ya.
So...since I'm weak.....I curbed the PT and hopped out and strapped on the 6000.....and stuffed my little spade into my back pocket. I wandered around the adjacent lot.....to a spot where I'd previously found some silver military "stripes".....and decided to go hunt by that bush again....and within a couple minutes, I got a pretty convincing "quarter" reading on my meter....and pinpointing showed it to be at just 3 inches. I was thinking to myself "I have absolutely hammered this place...how'd I miss that?"...but there it was...and I was sure it was a coin.
I cut a plug and folded the grass back....and removed the merc from the dust in the hole (man do we need rain).....looked at the dime and, as the title suggests, it's been used as a screwdriver.....and has a little twist above liberty's forehead. It's the second merc like that which I've found. I recall the other one was a 41......and was no more than 100 yards from this one.
It ain't much.....but after digging clad and buying coins...it's nice to use "direct deposit" again in adding to my treasure chest. The dime is a 1918-S, and twisted or not....it's now "in captivity". It was more interesting than the 41 clad quarters I dug this morning.
Got home and cut the grass. I'm gonna go grab a bite....but wanted to share this find with you all.
