It's a Darby pot that dates either from early to mid 1800 or mid to late 1800. I can't tell because the bottom is missing and that would tell the casting type from the patterns left from the sand casting process. It was found in a creek bed about 9 inches under the water. It was my sons first time out and there was a beer can on top at about 4 inches. We dug it out and said sweep the whole again. There it was. Should have seen his face. 13 years old. These will be the best years.

He said sweep the hole again. Sorry for the misspells. The area was part of an old plantation from the late 1700. Unfortunately the plantation house was burned in 1969 and a developer put a house on the spot where it used to be.

That's a very neat piece. Too bad it's not complete. Yesterday I found just the lid from a cast iron pot or kettle that just wreaks of
age. I don't know about type but I love it. Hope you and your son find more things on these grounds

Throw up a pic of that lid. I may be able to tell you what it is.

Thats cool.
