Can't figure out why "professional" salvage companies are having such a hard time finding ships to salvage. I have found plenty of them....too many of them.

The East Coast of Florida has too much trash. I propose:

1. The military be required to pick up any military related ships or debris, not merely "map it"

2. That all hurricane trash be cleaned up for 500 yards out from the coast from the adjacent counties

3. All hurricane wrecks left in the water by their owners be picked up and billed to the owners or the owners' insurance companies.

4. Florida forget all the archaeology excuses and allow salvors to come in with heavy equipment to remove large quantities of ancient wreck debris, artifacts and treasure the "quick way".

This will help clean up America's seas and the Florida Coast.

Nice proposal.Only one problem.the state wont pay anyone to remove anything.Either will the cities. The reason? No money. No grants. If your boat is not insured and wrecked or sunk by a storm or hurricane,if you file the proper paperwork in time, fema can remove it or raise it if sunk. You cant depend on insurance co's to get rid of the boats, most are scamming, they pay the owner and marinas then never retrieve the boats. There already is laws and rules for abandoned boats and ships. It works like this. You abandon your boat or ship. The state and DEP and army corp of engineers sends you a nice letter saying you will be fined X amount of $$$ if the boat is not removed. That is if they find the name or the numbers on your boat. Most owners find out thier boat has been wrecked or sunk remove anything that can lead it back to them. Most likely you will be fined about 5k,then if you dont pay it,you can never ever register a car or truck or boat in florida and on top of that, they take away your drivers license. The city of sebastian 2 years ago got a grant from the feds to remove all the abandoned boats in the ICW.They got 300k.Well some shrimp boat came in the inlet 1 day and the capt ran it aground cause it was sinking. He left his 1 mate aboard and in charge and left in a rubber raft. The first mate was rescued by the marine patrol. So whoever was in charge of all this money sebastian got, hired a salvager to remove the shrimp boat for 300k.It took em a week to cut up the wood boat and to haul it off on a barge.Usally cities put a job like this up for bid,but i think there was someone looking to get a kickback.Im sure someone did.Salvagers dont charge that much to remove a wreck.I would have done it for 30-50k.At the time i had the crew and equipment to do it since i was cutting up sunken boats at finns marina and hauling them to the dump.I removed 3 of them plus debris from many others and refloated a sailboat and the pelican cabin cruiser near there. All the boats sunk at finns marina were insured. The insurance co paid the marina but didnt get anyone to salvage them.Someone did come in and remove all the diesel engines out of the boats that were partly sunk and easy to refloat. The rest were left there for me to remove.
