In another thread we were posting pictures of mangled coins, but I wanted to start another one because we kind of got off the original subject. Here is a picture of some coins that I recently found that were damaged. Most of them are newer Lincoln cents but I have an older one that is bent and a Silver Roosevelt dime that looks like it was hit by a mower blade. The dime was just below the grass and is a 1956.

Pointman, I think the mangled pennies are just "zincolns" - as you probably know our current one cent coins are and have been made of zinc,
since 1982 - with a copper wash over them . These "zincolns" turn into leprous , zombies after a very short time in the ground , pathetic but true.

Here are some mangled clad quarters. Given their condition I am assuming they were chewed up by a snowblower.

Zinc vs. Mangled. Two very different types of coins. I actually like mangled coins. I could go my whole life without finding another Zinc, and be really happy about it.

I have a whole jar full of mower coins too...I really dont know what to do with them...but the more i find, the more they add up. I have heard you can take mangled coins to the mint and they will replace them. just not sure if that is truth or a rumor that got spread around.

I read here on Tnet that you could do that, not only with mangled coins, but also with rotting Zinc pennies. I doubt that it's cost effective. I also read that some clubs accept them as donations. I don't care either way. It's not like I have a few hundred dollars worth of trashed coins. If I did, I might feel differently about it.

Have you tried bringing them into your bank? Most will take them and turn them back into the fed along with their other damaged coins and currency. Sure couldn't hurt to ask
