Dahlonega trip

Great time going to both mines in Dahlonega, Georgia.
Should have gone to the consolidated mines first then to crisson mine.
Found some specs of gold at both places.
Lots of work for a little gold.
The guy at consolidated said for the mine to be commercially profitable , gold would need to be over 2000 per ounce.

Sounds like you had a fun trip.
I was in Charlotte NC about 4 years ago working for about 5 months.
One weekend we drove to the Reed Gold Mine State Park in NC.
NC Historic Sites - Reed Gold Mine - The Site Today
Got to walk through an old mine, pan for gold, and see some of the old Gold coins in the museum from the old Charlotte mint.
Was a very fun and educational trip.

Thanks BonePicker, I will need to hit that one at some point too.
Everyone needs to try it and see how hard of an existence that was.
Even panning concentrates, is really a humbling experience!

Thanks for sharing that info on the crisson and consolidated mines.
If im ever in Georgia I will have to look up the crisson and consolidated mines, and go check em out.
When I was a kid I made a trip to Cali. We bought a pan and made a trip up into the mountains.
Found a stream, parked, and went down to it to try our luck panning.
Never found any gold, it was fun, but was definitely a humbling experience.
At the Reed mine, I think I paid a dollar a pan. Tried a few pans.
I ended up finding a tiny speck of gold, but if it weren't for the guy standing there I prob never would have seen it.
I made a joke with the guys I worked with saying that the guide put that speck of gold in my pan when he pointed it out, so id pay for another pan.
It was neat though, they put it In a vial, and I still have it in the closet somewhere.

The consolidated mine tour for $20 was a great deal.
You got to watch a movie, take a mine tour, watch a panning instructional video, and pan (1 pan) for gold (4 flakes found).

The Crisson mine did not charge anything for admission.
You paid $3 for the tractor tour, $45 for some concentrates in a bag to pan, and if you wanted to run the trammel, it was $90.
Crisson is a full service gold hunting dealer though.
They sold everything from dredges and high bankers to White's metal detectors and accessories.
If you go to Dahlonega, you have to hit them both.

Saw a LOT of cool towns on the way back from Dahlonega, GA to Gadsden, AL (went the back way, so we did not go through Atlanta).
I would not mind moving to this great little town, although I would have to experience a winter situation there before that decision is made.
