Dad's Roman Silver Field...

Ever since Dad fluked out a Roman Silver from the Wheat stubble whilst exploring new crop marks, we have been waiting for better conditions. Today we got the OK to search a perfectly flat & drilled field :icon_thumright:
It started well & ended well but the 4 hours in the middle were a slog of nothing, which is puzzling as it was directly over the crop marks. All the coins came from 1 edge, not close to the main enclosures, as there was no pottery I am now thinking Bronze Age :icon_scratch:

6.5 Hours (13 man hours)

25 Roman Bronze Coin (2nd best 1 day total this year)
1 Roman Silver (sadly very debased)
1 Cut Hammered of Henry III (1247-72)
Ting fragment of Roman Child's Ring
Part of a Roman Locking Mechanism
Medicine weight
Jetton
Nice Tudor Button
Raw Graphite (a first) :icon_scratch:

Good day but not quite the result we hoped for :laughing7:

Re: Dad's Roman Silver Field...

Hi Cru! Not a bad day. But what has the fertilizer done to these coins... :-\
But You have another silver and, maybe, after deep plough the chance on something bronze age.

Re: Dad's Roman Silver Field...

Lots of finds there, a real marathon of detecting just goes to prove that you have to put in the time and dedication to come up with the goods. You certainly deserve some good results. Keep up the good work!!
l don't do the long sessions so much these days since going past 70, about 4 hours and l have done enough. John.

I agree, that car hoodie or bonnet as you folks would say definatley looks bronze age.

We generally don't hunt Bronze Age sites, 1 find or nothing, it would mostly be a waste of time

A marathon is 11+ hours  But this field & other time constraints made this one not worth it.
