Wasn't there something on TV a while back about paper money being found in that area? I don't remember exactly.

yes, some kids found some 100 dollar bills, I think, partly buried in a creek bank not far from his jump site, I think he made the jump and survived, never found his body, so the mystery continues.

Wonder if Cooper survived the jump or landing? You would think if he went to all that trouble he would have things planned out really well, like his get away. The whole thing is a little bizarre, makes one wonder if this was staged to hide something else?
Well he wouldn't want to try that now! Lol! The passengers would have taken him down in a heart beat!

two things fall from the sky..

the military had been teaching HALO for some time when DB used the method to exit with the cash.

can't find the link...but HALO was created at FT Bragg around 57-58.

In response to some of the previous posts and questions ------- With the exception of the money found in the creek bed , none of the other money has ever surfaced --The airline had recorded all the serial numbers ---- There has never been a body found nor any evidence of any parachute material located -------- An instruction sheet from the rear door was located in the woods many miles away a few years later------------------------------------------------------- SO there are many links all over the web about it ----------------- I just wanted to bring it forward before it gets lost in time ,,,, Hard to believe that it was Thanksgiving Eve 42 years ago----The only successful US highjacking

............. if it was successful. Successful, that is, in the sense that he survived.

I have to admit, like lots of others, I love the romantic idea that he made it - if he did.

after that fact it was designed that only weight on wheels (wow switch) that certain things would operate with the acft on the ground , avn mech call it the DB switch
I believe that after this incident, the rear doors to similar aircraft would no longer be able to be unlocked from within the cabin; only from the cockpit.

I did some research and found this (as 'nsdq' mentioned above): In the wake of multiple "copycat" hijackings in 1972 the FAA required that all Boeing 727 aircraft be fitted with a device, later dubbed the "Cooper vane", which prevented lowering of the aft airstair during flight. Several airlines elected to abandon use of the airstair entirely, and simply welded the aft doors of their 727s shut.A less-well-known modification mandated as a direct result of the hijacking was the installation of peepholes in all cockpit doors, making it possible for the cockpit crew to observe events in the passenger cabin with the cockpit door closed.
Don.

amazing how some incidents can cause refits and mods to aircraft etc...

All this reminds me of the Kennedy conspiracist's theory. About 20 years ago, there was a two hour TV special on D B Cooper. During that broadcast, he was identified as an inmate serving time in California. I don't remember all of the details, but his finger prints were the clue. If my memory is correct, he was let out of prison early because he developed terminal cancer. But just like the recent Kennedy anniversary, every few years conspiracists will start the whole process over. It is sort of like all of the treasure troves we are so fond of hearing.
