The manual says autotune is a wide scan deep seeking mode. I have done extensive air tests and autotune doesnt detect any deeper or have a wider detection field than disricriminate. Maybe in saltwater and sand its different than air testing. Im going to have to do a test in the wet salt sand. Ive been using the 21 for two years and I hunt in autotune and switch to disc to id the target.

My CZ-20 works the same way. However I leave it in Autotune and just scoop. I think the signal response is larger and you can get a noise when coil is couple inches from the target to the sides. I also don't like to switch between modes as it wears out the switch I believe. I over slept and am out the door for some quality water time. 038.jpgThis is the only type "scoop" I let the guys use on our swim areas because of fabric under the sand and this won't damage it. You pull it toward you and sand sifts through the 3/8" screen. You can dig deep with it by using it like a hoe.

I can get a bit more depth in air tests with autotune on my cz's but not enough to be grossly obvious unless you are really meticulous with the experimenting. If you air test a silver dime at scrim 1 to the point where it no longer beeps, say 7", then switch to autotune, you will most likely get a whine at 8" inches or a bit more. If you start off your target sweep speed over the coil slow then keep increasing the swipe speed faster and faster you will get deeper and deeper up to a point of diminishing returns both in scrim and autotune. There is a speed "sweet spot" and it tends to be on the fast side. Not to say the machines have fast recovery. On land I have convinced myself to dig plenty of iffy targets by wagging the coil faster and faster and the iffy signal starts getting a bit better. These often end up being crusty indian cents.

When I air test I swipe the target at the speed that I think I swing when hunting...It will hit quite a bit deeper with a faster swing.

lookingdown I have discussed this on some old posts. A lot of folks insist the cz needs a slow sweep. That's ok. They are missing deep stuff.

that's how I use mine too - I hunt all metal and click to zero - quick check of target and back to all metal
wish they would get rid of the pinpoint button (I don't like it - don't use it)and put one that you press to check in ID mode

...if I get into the old stuff with little junk - I leave in all metal and dig it all
beware - some deep faint targets - in ID mode will ring off as a low tone if it is at your machines limits for depth or if your batteries are not up to par
I have found deep deep gold and some coins that barely read they were so deep - checked in zero - got low tone - then fanned about 6 in. of sand away with my dive boot
rechecked and got a high tone (my last 4 gold -which you can check out on my album page- were close to 2 feet down
and were whispers read this way)--so Im sure there are guys out there missing stuff if they pass up these type of signals
I own 3 cz21s - I wrote a bunch of articles - anyone want link to them - drop me a line

I would like any info that you could give me on the cz21. Thanks and Happy Hunting Ken

Since I normally hit the same beaches, which are pretty trashy, I hunt disc 1. I agree with Casper about getting rid of pin point. I use an eight inch coil, and rarely need to pinpoint, and if you could use it to id material, I would probably be in autotune more often.
