Have a CZ-21 and can't figure out if it's working correctly or not. It may be my interpretation of the manual or it may actually be broken. Willing to come to your house to show me how to work the darn thing if your willing to help me out. Thanks

Problem. (Fresh batteries installed)

1. On the beach I just can't get it to ground balance like the manual describes.
2. Can't get it to discriminate pull tabs
3. All tones sound the same.

Put in lowest scrim. Ground test a clad quarter, a pull tab and a rusty nail at 6". If all the tones are the same, it's a crapper.

Gleaner is right about it being a crapper if all the tones sound the same. You should get low, medium and high tones depending on conductivity.
As for the ground balance thing, you must GB on the dry sand if your gonna hunt the dry sand. When you move to wet you need to GB again and stay in the wet sand. I had better luck ground balancing by not using the pinpoint button and just raised and lowered the coil till the threhold was steady. Course you need to max out the Volume and Sens to do this, then back the sens back to the presets and volume to what you are comfortable with. At the beach you never want to disc out pull tabs as 90% of the gold rings will be a mid tone like pull tabs. I usually only scoop the mid tones and leave the time wasting coins for the newbies. Time spend scooping coins is time wasted when you could spend it sweeping for gold.

What Gleener and Sandman said are spot on but for me, in the tampa area on the beaches, I don't spend anytime with ground balance.... just put it on 5 and go hunting for me. You should have the mid tone on pulltabs as Sandman said....

Ive never been able to get mine to ground balance on the West coast of Florida. I set it on 5 and it hits plenty deep enough for me. Auto tune has only one sound for all targets, disc mode should have three different tones. If a nail sounds the same as a coin in disc, something is wrong. Let us know if you figure it out.
