Bounty Hunter 3300 now, but looking for recommendations

New permission on a large (50 acres), known CW winter site yielded a number of items all from the same little pit. I'd say finding it was half research, half luck! Any help identifying them would be appreciated.

I have no clue what the arrow-looking piece and the folded up piece of metal are - any ideas?

In the bullets pic, one of them looks like a sinker, but there doesn't appear to be a hole at the top.

Could be way off, but the lead figure looks hand-crafted into an animal, perhaps a dog. Any thoughts?

The pile of thin, black pieces looks almost like shingles.

Thanks

Lots of indications for a spot to hit hard. The long folded strap might be a barrel band. Find lots of unidentified stuff in trash pits. The lead pieces are interesting and I think the one looks like a weight of some sort, be it fishing sinker or net weight. Any water close by?

Not a dog.

You can see the broken second hole. Small lead item with two holes may have been a clothing fastener of some sort. Maybe for a cloak? :dontknow:

In winter camp, soldiers would repurposed whatever they could find to make things more comfortable or convenient. During those months, boredom was the biggest enemy. Lots of time for creative thinking...

I like the barrel band idea. It looks like it was bent into a hook that would hang over a door or shelter wall.

Yes, a sizable stream flowing eventually into the Rappahannock.

How would you describe "hit hard"? To what extent would you dig out this spot?

Thanks!

Virgin winter camps should have lots and lots of non-ferrous targets - buttons, coins, bullets, horse equipment, brass items.... Those guys left a mess where ever they camped. Since many of your finds are iron, it might indicate that others have been there before you to dig "the good stuff".

That said, digging the iron targets may unmask better targets below. A buddy of mine has been hunting in a field near Leesburg that was winter camp for both armies (not at the same time, of course). It has been HAMMERED by diggers for much of last 30 - 40 years. Two weeks ago he dug a 2 1/2 dollar gold coin out of it. Finds are few but often good. I would give it a few more hours before calling it quits. And keep digging the big iron!

remove all signals from the pit before moving on. I was hunting on Brooke rd and got a south Carolina button at the bottom of a pit under no less than a hundred nails and it's been dug many time over the past 40 years.

As always, great information for someone learning the ropes. Thanks

Can you post pictures of the "bullets" from different angles? The large ball with the small one fused to it reminds me of a "buck and ball". Also measurements of them would be helpful.

My 6-year old had labeled it a buck and ball last week well before me :laughing7:
