Do you have any marks or identifying characteristics to associate it with that action?

Unfortunately not Rando. Just the location and items found around it. It a wooded site and ring was 20 inches down. Found with new F75LTD. Thxs

I found this information

http://www.dmna.state.ny.us/historic/reghist/civil/cavalry/2ndMtdRifles/2ndMtdRiflesMain.htm

Private Phillips in this photo is wearing a pinky ring

Notice Wesley Merritt's pinky ring here:

I'm trying to learn more about the symbolism of the ring and what the design on the sides of the stone shield are. My best guess is a torch and wreath?

The Bloodstone apparently represents, bravery and courage and is the hero's gemstone. The shield is either representative of the US Shield or Protection or both. Bloodstone also stood for protection from bleeding or hemorrhage. The torch is representative of eternal life and truth, the wreath victory. Wheat could be the symbol of prosperity. At least from what I have found on the net.

Any further help in my research would be greatly appreciated. Especially on what troops may have worn the Eagle R in 2nd US Calvary under Merritt.

Here is a link to a similar ring, http://portobelloantiques.blogspot.com/2009/01/maori-land-wars-gold-and-bloodstone.html

Mine does not have an inscription unfortunately.

Looks like you have done your research, too.
That is a SWEET find.

That's my favorite part of relic hunting is the research never know where a find may take when you start investigating. reason I've been at since 71' :>)

Thx
