Detector(s) used
Teknetics G2 with 13" Ultimate coil, AKA Sorex Pro, Eurotek Pro, Garrett Pro pointer
Primary Interest:
All Treasure Hunting
I spent the last 10 days on vacation and aside from spending three days in the Smoky Mtns with the wife and kids. I was able to get in 5 days of relic hunting of about 3 hours each day. Four of the five days were spent re-visiting an early war Union campsite I discovered 10 years ago. Over the years I have pounded this site hard with various detectors, and although the site is fairly large and goes from a pasture to a private yard to woods, I have been lucky to find as much as a single musketball or pistol ball in a single days hunt lately. I figured this would be a good test for my new Teknetics Omega 8000. My settings for those interested:
Sensitivity at 99! Very little noise!
Disc at 16 (for great iron see through)
2 tones
ground balance in the range of of 58-63

Day one hunt...
a 69 cal. minie comes to light (only the second three ringer I have ever found there, everything else is 69 cal. musketballs, Enfields, and pistol bullets) and followed by 4 musketballs and a pistol ball...not bad for my "hunted out site", but surely it cannot produce more?
Day two hunt...
Another musketball, and as I was getting ready to leave a good signal reading under a large flat rock and.... an eagle button, dont want to field clean it, but it looks like I see some gilding and is that an "R"? Dry brushed later and some lemon juice produces my first Rifleman button with a ton of gilt. I think the rock protected it , but how did it get under that rock?
Day three hunt...
6 more musketballs and a musket strap adjuster hook
Day four hunt..
My wife and I decided to hit a different site across the State line in Tennessee to a cavalry camp that everybody and their uncle has hit...results, a Starr and Spencer drop half of a horseshoe, a hand forged iron spike, and two saddle parts.
Day five hunt...
one more musketball and three pistol balls...and did a little creek searching for Indian points and came up with a dinged up but decent point.
I have to say that several of the relics came out of the ground in spots that I know that I have been over several times.. I am VERY impressed with the Omega.
Happy huntin eveybody!

Sweet finds. That eagle "R" button sure is a nice one.

Nice historic recoveries. With this success with your new detector, you will want to search all your old productive sites again. We dug some great relics with the F75s in spots we had pounded hard previously with our old detectors. HH, Quindy in Middle Tennessee.

Looks like your new machine is treating you good. Nice digs!

Really nice finds. Congrats on the R button.

Congrats on the finds, that "R" button is a looker :icon_thumright: continued success with the new machine.

Thanks all...I am pumped to see what else the Omega can pull out of my old hunted out sites...and I think I may have located a picket post for this camp...have to wait till 4th of July to see if I am right.

Great! Now I gotta buy and Omega!! ::)

Just kidding. You have that thing dialed in. Congrats on sniffing out some super finds!
