I already posted on the regular finds section, but I dug an unusual button which according to Dr. Beach, says is period. It has CADET above a building/barracks and the initials W.M.S. What I can gather is this military school was in operation prior and up to the CW. The button itself dates from the late 1850s and supposedly from South Central VA near Lynchburg.
Interesting tidbit per TICE book, states similar button was excavated in a V corps camp in Northern Carolina and another example was given to a Union Officer by a Reb soldier during the surrender of Lee's army at Appomatox. I am trying to research state of origin and name of school. Any help greatly appreciated.
Link from Dr. BEACH's response a reknown civil war relic researcher/author responded to my forum inquiry via CWbulllet.org which is provided as a reference. My best button to date and believe Confederate. Backmark reads: SCOVILL.MG.CO.SUPERFINE.
Response from Dr. BEACH cwbullet.org
Need help with buton: CADET W.M.S. BackmarK: Scoville MGCO. SUPERFINE
