I'd like to send you the stopper I have which is exactly like the top right item in the first pic. I hope it's ok to post someone else's pic for this. I just want to find something out. Please pm me if you have the bottle ill send you my stopper for a fit.

Yes, that is Quindy's oil can. I'll send him an email to let him know you have the cap/lid to it. Breezie

It was me (VOL1266-X) who dug the relic. As I said in Buckleboy's post, I thought it was a razor handle and kept it. I do agree that Dr. Lord seems to have made some mistakes in his last 3 volumes but if the top fits, he may have been right. The recovery site was hunted by Tennessee Digger several years ago and the lady who lived there flew a yellow flag outside after a battle to signidfy that she would care for Confederate wounded. HH, Quindy.

Quindy, can you snap a photo of that page in Lord's book showing the pic of the container and post it? Thanks, Breezie

Looks like a razor handle to me, If there is a knurling pattern on the longest part of the ribs then its razor handle.

VOL1266-X, What metal is your item?
I think the razor handles are copper or brass and were plated. The one in the book is listed as iron But I can plainly see the knurling on it that matches the razor handles. Has me wondering If the author even knows

It reads 75-77 on the F75 which puts it in the copper range. You can also see the orange on the edges too. I have always had doubts about the i.d. Does anyone have an old razor handle to see if it is hollw? HH, Quindy.

None of my "modern" reference books that have gun oil bottles contain a picture that is even remotely close to the one here in question. They do have plenty of oil bottles from the Civil War and later. However, the stopper in the first picture could easily be a match to several oil bottle stoppers in my books.

55 years ago, I started shaving with a Gillette razor just like that. Where does that leave me???? Hmmmmm!

I have a couple of old safety razors. Neither is an exact match here, but I did have one with a handle similar to that at one time. It was solid with threads in the neck, and was nickle plated brass.
