CW Musket [Updated with picture]

Re: CW Musket

Congrats RH. :icon_thumleft:
I remember digging my 1st and I still love digging CW lead. Start yourself a display case you'll be surprised how fast you'll fill it.

Re: CW Musket

I still remember my first too - Savannah, TN, near an old old tree in my yard, over the next year or so, I dug 2-3 more from the adjacent field. Nice going and like someone mentioned, start a display case - they look cool when they get full. At least you know there was activitiy in the area and that's a huge plus!

Re: CW Musket

Thanks for the suggestion, know anywhere I can get a cool looking cheap display case? I have 3 Sharps, and a musket to put it in so far.

RH,
Those Riker display cases are tough to find unless you get them off the internet or E-bay.
I have a local guy I buy them from. Shoot me a PM with your address and I'll send you a small one at no charge. I have some extras & I'm glad to help out.
It gets addicting once you start putting your finds in these cases, and they look great too. I use them as eye candy to flash in front of property owners that I'm trying to get permission from to detect their properties. Here's just a few.

Re: CW Musket

WOW! :headbang: you have a serious collection there. I am way behind. I only have about 5 - 7 civil war items.

RJH02,
Those pop up a lot at CW site. They are from an umbrella. The part that holds the rods & slides up the umbrella shaft.
Here's a bit more:

Hey Bob....

Those items you asked about in the photo are parts to an umbrella or parasol as they used to be called.
It was at the top and the notches were where the "ribs" fastened.
I found some when I first started detecting and didn't have a clue as to what they were until I saw some posts stating what they were.. I was trying to come up with all kinds of ideas as to what they were!!
By the way, Percy said he bumped into you a couple of weeks ago and you two did some hunting.
We'll have to get together and do a hunt now that cool weather is here.

RH,
I'm pretty sure that is a Confederate musket ball, because I swear I see the letters "C" "S" on it. :dontknow: :tongue3: ;D
You could almost throw those things and knock someone out. ;D
