I found this last week in a well known CW Union camp. It’s lead, and has cast seams on each side. It has white patina, although some has chipped off. The end appears to be broke(n).

Can you ID this item?

I thought we would have gotten a bite by know.
I think it's a lead finial for a cartridge box or something similar. What do you guys think?

I like the pipe tamper idea. This may be just the peice of one. There are many examples on line that look similar.

Agreed... my first instinct as you saw but I deleted was "pipe tamper"...

But then I was having a dilemma on it ... not awake yet and to be so matter of fact on it is too early :P

Size is correct for both actually.

Broken items were often used for other things anyway... so could have been a spoon that broke and was flatted a little for use as a tamper.

Reduce Re-use Recycle.

Bridge pin for a guitar or some type of string instrument? Although I can't imagine using lead pins...
